Jerry F. Burngasser
Please join us on Monday September 10, 2018 at 7 PM, Vanguard Christian Church, 375 Payne Ave. North Tonawanda, NY 14120 to celebrate Jerry’s Life.
Jerry F. Burngasser, age 70 of Tonawanda, New York, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus on July 30, 2018. Our family is heartbroken as his death was not expected but we realize we are here on “God’s Time” and it was time for Jerry to go home.
Jerry was the son of the late Jerome and Helen (nee Brodfuehrer) Burngasser. He was brother to the late Colleen McNamee as well.
Jerry had such a heart for his family: Mary Dendy (sister), Jane Kariuki (sister), Joseph (Patricia) Burngasser (brother) and Reverend Judy and Reverend Dr. Ronald Burgio (sister). He was a Devoted Uncle to Liz (Jeffrey) Diegelman, Robby Dendy, Paul (Chennelle) Kariuki, Jerry Kariuki, Joseph M. Burngasser, MaryKate Burngasser, Michael (Taia) Burngasser, Rachel Vazquez, Louis Burgio, Emily (Ryan) Nuwer, Reverend Jonathan (Nicki) Burgio, Carrie (Matthew) Vargo, Meagen McNamee, and Joe McNamee. He was a Great Uncle to 13.
If we had to pick just two words to describe Jerry, it would be Big Heart. Jerry was a truly caring and giving person. The Bible says, if someone wants your shirt, give him your coat as well. That described our brother.
He was always ready to give, even though he himself, did not have a lot of material things. But what he did have was a big heart and determination and that, along with his faith, carried him through life.
His love for his family and friends was evident in his commitment to staying in touch with his cousins. He loved playing Pinochle and Euchre at family get togethers. You often can get an indication of a person’s life based on how many hearts he touched. Jerry touched many with his caring and jovial personality. He will be truly missed by his good friends Don Johnson and Bill Kandare. A special thank you to Wegman’s for making him part of their family in the Produce Department at the Niagara Falls Boulevard location in Amherst, NY for many years.
Jerry was a 1966 graduate of Cardinal O’Hara High School and would fondly reminisce about the years he spent there. He was particularly proud of his participation in the Varsity Cross Country Team for three seasons and we enjoyed many laughs as he shared his stories.
If there was a Karaoke Night somewhere in the Tonawanda’s we knew exactly where we would find him. He was a regular at the ELKS on Main Street in Tonawanda for their Wednesday Karaoke. In fact, someone gave him the name Jerrioke at one of these events and it stuck.
